South Korea is a democratic nation located in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula in East Asia. Today it actively connects with the world culturally through K‑pop, films, and cuisine.
After liberation from Japanese colonial rule in 1945, two states were established in 1948: the Republic of Korea in the south and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) in the north, dividing the peninsula. In 1950, North Korea’s invasion sparked the Korean War; since the 1953 Armistice, the peninsula has remained in a ceasefire and one of the longest national divisions in the world.
Though still divided, South Korea continues to hope for peace, coexistence, and eventual reunification. Through this site, we invite you to remember the division of Korea and join us in praying for peace.
